The Unlikely Spotlight
Part 164
The next day, I woke up feeling refreshed and excited for another day at U.A. High School. I had enjoyed my impromptu lunch with Amajiki, Mirio, and Nejire, and I was looking forward to getting to know them better. As I made my way to my first class, I couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging, something I hadn't experienced in a while. My morning classes were uneventful, with the usual lectures and notes. I was just another face in the crowd, and I preferred it that way. However, as I walked into my afternoon class, I noticed a group of students staring at me. Deku, Bakugo, Todoroki, Kirishima, Shinso, and Kaminari all had their eyes fixed on me, their faces flushing red as they quickly looked away. At first, I thought it was just my imagination, but as the class progressed, I caught them staring at me again. I felt a growing sense of confusion and unease. What was going on? Why were they staring at me? I tried to focus on the lesson, but my mind kept wandering back to the strange behavior of my classmates. It wasn't until I was walking out of class that I overheard a conversation between Deku and Bakugo. "Did you guys hear that Vesper said she likes us?" Deku asked, his voice barely above a whisper. The others nodded, their faces still flushed with embarrassment. I stopped dead in my tracks, my heart racing. What? When did I say that? I replayed my conversation with Amajiki, Mirio, and Nejire in my head, but I couldn't recall saying anything like that. I must have misheard or misinterpreted their conversation. As I continued to walk, I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. I had no idea what I had supposedly said, but I had a feeling that it was going to change things. Suddenly, I was the center of attention, and I wasn't sure if I was ready for it. The rest of the day was a blur, with me trying to make sense of what was happening. I kept catching glimpses of Deku, Bakugo, Todoroki, Kirishima, Shinso, and Kaminari staring at me, their faces a mix of embarrassment and curiosity. It wasn't until I was walking into the cafeteria for lunch that I saw Amajiki, Mirio, and Nejire waiting for me. "Hey, Little Kouhai!" Nejire exclaimed, as they fell into step beside me. "What's going on? You seem a bit distracted." I hesitated, unsure of how to explain the strange occurrences of the day. "It's just...I think I might have accidentally said something to upset some of my classmates," I said, trying to downplay the situation. Amajiki's eyes widened slightly, and Mirio grinned mischievously. "You have no idea, do you?" he asked, chuckling. I shook my head, feeling a sense of trepidation. "I think I'm about to find out," I said, as we made our way to our table. As we sat down, Mirio leaned in, a conspiratorial look on his face. "You see, Vesper, you might want to know that we're kind of... famous. The Big Three of U.A., to be exact." My eyes widened in surprise, and I felt a sense of awe wash over me. The Big Three? I had heard of them, of course. They were the top students in the school, known for their exceptional abilities and achievements. But what did that have to do with me? And what exactly had I supposedly said to make them all stare at me like that? I had a feeling that I was about to find out, and it wasn't going to be easy.
