"Unraveling the Heartstrings"

Part 41

Izaya Orihara's eyes locked onto Shizuo Heiwajima's as he asked, his voice low and husky, "Shizu-chan, do you miss Vanitas?" He watched as Shizuo's eyes widened slightly, his face still bearing the marks of sleep. Shizuo's blush was immediate, and he looked away, trying to hide his embarrassment. Izaya couldn't help but smile, feeling a sense of satisfaction at having brought about this reaction in Shizuo. He leaned in, his lips brushing against Shizuo's in a gentle kiss. "If you love Vanitas more than me, I understand," Izaya whispered, his breath tickling Shizuo's skin. Shizuo's eyes snapped back to Izaya's, his face flushing even deeper as he realized what had just happened. Izaya's kiss had left Shizuo breathless, and he couldn't help but think about the implications of what had just occurred. His rival, his enemy, had just kissed him. Shizuo's heart was racing, and he felt like he was drowning in his own emotions. "F-Flea no Izaya," Shizuo stuttered, his voice barely above a whisper. He looked at Izaya, still blushing, and said, "I don't want to go back to Vanitas' world." Izaya's expression turned somber, and he looked away, his eyes clouding over with guilt. "Shizu-chan, you have to go back," he said, his voice laced with a sense of resignation. "Vanitas... he cares about you, and I don't think he's willing to let you go without a fight." Shizuo's face fell, and he looked at Izaya with a mixture of confusion and concern. "Why do you care, Izaya?" he asked, his voice soft. "You're just trying to get under Vanitas' skin, aren't you?" Izaya's eyes snapped back to Shizuo's, and he smiled wryly. "Maybe at first, yes," he admitted. "But now... I don't know, Shizu-chan. I just don't want to see you hurt." Shizuo's eyes narrowed, and he looked at Izaya with a critical gaze. "You're not going to hurt me, are you, Izaya?" he asked, his voice laced with a hint of fear. Izaya's smile faltered, and he looked away, his eyes dropping to the floor. "I don't think I could ever hurt you, Shizu-chan," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "At least, not intentionally." The air was thick with tension as Shizuo looked at Izaya, trying to read his expressions. He wasn't sure what to make of Izaya's words, but he knew one thing - he didn't want to go back to Vanitas' world. Not now, not when he had Izaya's lips still burning on his own. "I don't want to go back," Shizuo repeated, his voice firm. "I want to stay with you, Izaya." Izaya's eyes snapped back to Shizuo's, and he looked at him with a mixture of surprise and longing. For a moment, they just stared at each other, the air thick with unspoken emotions. Then, Izaya looked away, his eyes clouding over with uncertainty. "Shizu-chan, I don't know if that's a good idea," he said, his voice soft. "But I do know one thing - I don't want to let you go, not yet."
