Secrets and Lies
Part 15
The text message on Alex's phone seemed to be seared into Kenzy's brain as she tried to process the conversation they had just had. She felt like she had just made a huge mistake by pushing him away, and now she was faced with the possibility of him being involved with someone else. Her eyes lingered on the phone, her curiosity getting the better of her. Alex noticed her gaze and quickly silenced his phone, his expression neutral. "It's nothing," he said, his voice dismissive. Kenzy raised an eyebrow, her mind racing with possibilities. She didn't believe him, but she didn't press the issue. Instead, she stood up, trying to create some distance between them. "I should go," she said, her voice light. Alex stood up too, his eyes locked onto hers. "Yeah, okay," he said, his voice soft. As they walked out of the room together, Kenzy couldn't shake the feeling that she had just made a huge mistake. She felt like she had pushed Alex away, and now she was left wondering if she had lost her chance with him forever. The rest of the day was a blur for Kenzy. She went through the motions, attending classes and hanging out with friends, but her mind kept wandering back to Alex and the text message on his phone. Who was he talking to? And what did they want? As the sun began to set, Kenzy found herself walking home, lost in thought. She couldn't shake the feeling that she had made a mistake by pushing Alex away. She wondered if she had been too quick to assume that being honest about their feelings would lead to drama. As she approached her front door, Kenzy saw a figure waiting on her porch. It was Emily, her best friend, with a concerned look on her face. "Hey, girl," Emily said, standing up as Kenzy approached. "I've been trying to reach you all day. What's going on?" Kenzy sighed, feeling a mix of emotions. She wasn't sure if she was ready to talk about what had just happened with Alex, but she knew she needed to talk to someone. "Let's go inside," Kenzy said, unlocking the door and stepping inside. "I need to tell you something." As they sat down on the couch, Kenzy took a deep breath and began to recount her conversation with Alex. She told Emily about the text message on his phone and how she had pushed him away. Emily listened attentively, her expression growing more concerned by the minute. "Kenzy, I think you're making a huge mistake," she said, her voice soft. "You need to talk to Alex about this." Kenzy shook her head, feeling a sense of uncertainty. "I don't know," she said, her voice hesitant. "I don't want to ruin our friendship." Emily reached out and took Kenzy's hand. "You need to take a chance," she said, her voice firm. "You can't just push him away and expect everything to go back to normal." Kenzy looked at Emily, feeling a sense of trepidation. She knew her friend was right, but she was scared of what might happen if she took a chance on Alex.
