Alev, who had been sitting beside her, jumped up, his eyes scanning the monitors and the tiny body of their daughter. "What's happening?" Ashley asked, her voice trembling with fear. Alev, sensing her distress, wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. As the medical team worked to stabilize Emma, Ashley couldn't help but think about how fragile life was.
