"Confirmation"
Part 11
Maya sat in the waiting room, flipping through a worn copy of a health magazine, her mind racing with thoughts of her morning sickness and what it could mean. Sean had insisted on coming with her to the doctor's appointment, and she was grateful for his support. She had been feeling off for a few days, and after the episode on the couch, she knew she needed to get checked out. As she heard her name called, Maya stood up, smoothing out her clothes, and followed the nurse to the exam room. Sean gave her a reassuring smile and a gentle kiss on the cheek before sitting down in the waiting room. The nurse, a friendly woman with a warm smile, took Maya's vitals and asked her a series of questions about her symptoms. "So, how long have you been experiencing morning sickness?" she asked, scribbling down some notes on Maya's chart. Maya thought back to when it started. "About a week, I think. At first, I thought it was just a stomach bug or something, but it kept happening, and I realized it was probably something more." The nurse nodded sympathetically. "Okay, well, the doctor will be in to talk to you about your symptoms and do some tests. In the meantime, I'm going to go ahead and draw some blood." Maya nodded, feeling a little nervous as the nurse took her blood. She had always been a bit of a nervous wreck when it came to needles, but the nurse was professional and kind, making the process as painless as possible. After what felt like an eternity, the doctor came in, a friendly-looking woman with a warm smile. "Hi, Maya, I'm Dr. Patel. I understand you've been experiencing some morning sickness?" Maya nodded, feeling a little shy. "Yes, I have. And I've been feeling really tired and emotional." Dr. Patel nodded, making some notes on Maya's chart. "Okay, well, let's take a look. I'm going to do an ultrasound to make sure everything is okay." Maya felt a little nervous as Dr. Patel applied the gel to her stomach and began to move the wand around. Suddenly, a grainy image appeared on the screen, and Maya's eyes widened as she saw a tiny, flickering heartbeat. "You're about 8 weeks pregnant," Dr. Patel said, smiling. "Everything looks great. The baby is healthy and strong." Maya felt a wave of emotion wash over her as she stared at the screen, her mind reeling with the news. She was pregnant. She was going to be a mother. Sean came into the room, a look of excitement on his face. "How's everything looking?" he asked, his eyes scanning the room. Dr. Patel smiled. "Everything looks great. Maya is about 8 weeks pregnant, and the baby is healthy and strong." Maya turned to Sean, tears streaming down her face. "We're having a baby," she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. Sean's face lit up with a huge grin, and he pulled Maya into a tight hug. "We're having a baby," he repeated, his voice filled with excitement and joy. As they hugged, Maya felt a sense of wonder and excitement wash over her. She was going to be a mother. And she was going to do it with the love of her life by her side.
