Into the Abyss
Part 4
As Gerald winked at her, spreading the powder on his hand, Ashley's eyes widened in alarm. She felt a sense of unease wash over her, and her mind began to reel with the possibilities. What if she was pregnant? What if she was getting in over her head with Gerald's lifestyle? The thought of being addicted to something, anything, was terrifying. "Oh, I don't know," she said, shrugging her shoulders, trying to play it cool. Gerald's face lit up with a charming smile. "Come on, Ash, it's just a little party favor. Have some alcohol, it'll help you relax." He signaled to the bartender, who handed him a shot glass filled with a clear liquid. "Vodka?" Gerald asked, raising an eyebrow at Ashley. She looked down, her eyes scanning the bar, searching for an escape. Maybe just a water, she thought to herself. But before she could say anything, Gerald was pushing the shot glass towards her. "Come on, Ash, it's fun," he said, his eyes sparkling with encouragement. Ashley hesitated, feeling a sense of trepidation. She didn't want to do it, but she also didn't want to ruin the night. She didn't want to disappoint Gerald. As she looked up at him, she saw a glint of something in his eyes, something that made her feel like she was in over her head. The bartender, a friendly-looking woman with a pierced nose, leaned in and whispered, "You okay, sweetie? You look like you're in trouble." Ashley smiled weakly, feeling a sense of gratitude towards the woman. "Yeah, I'm fine," she said, trying to sound convincing. But as she looked back at Gerald, she knew she wasn't fine. She was in trouble, and she didn't know how to get out. The music was getting louder, the lights flashing faster, and Ashley felt like she was spinning out of control.
