The Tulgey Wood: A Desperate Refuge
Part 4
Tiny Alice soon found herself in the Tulgey Wood, a forest full of strange, sometimes dangerous creatures, and nonstop heavy snow. The snowflakes danced around her, their delicate edges mesmerizing as they swirled in every direction. But Alice's wonder was short-lived, as the biting cold began to seep into her tiny body. After a half hour of walking through the giant snowy woods, tiny Alice was a shivering, sniffling mess. The poor girl was catching a cold from the freezing temperature. Once again, she began to constantly sneeze, though this time they were tiny. "Ah-ha-ah-ah-ah-Ah-choooo! Chooo! Ah-Ah-Atchooo! Ahchoo! Achooo! Ah-Ahh-Ahhh-Ahhhh-Ahhhhh-Hahchooo! Hitchuuu! Hahh...hahh....hahhhhh...Hatchooo! Hachuuuu! Eshieeew!" Her tiny sneezes echoed through the forest, but were quickly drowned out by the howling wind. Suddenly, a huge, monstrous creature that was missing an eye loomed over her tiny form. It was the vicious Bandersnatch, a savage, nonverbal creature of the Tulgey Wood which was controlled by Queen Iracebeth. It began to chase poor Alice, growling and roaring in rage. The ground shook beneath her feet as the Bandersnatch thundered towards her. Alice ran in fear, but she slipped on a ledge on the snowy ground, and began to roll head over heels down a huge, steep hill. She tumbled and somersaulted, her tiny body helpless to control its trajectory. Before she knew it, she was encased in a snowball. The Alice-snowball landed in a giant snowbank, getting buried in the deep thick snow. The Bandersnatch had lost sight of her, but it was determined to find its prey. It sniffed and snuffled, its one eye scanning the snowbank for any sign of its quarry. But just as it was about to find Alice, another creature appeared on the scene. The Jabberwocky, a gargantuan dragon-like creature, emerged from the trees. Its massive wings beat the air, sending snowflakes swirling in every direction. The Jabberwocky let out a deafening roar, and the Bandersnatch let out a terrified yelp. It turned tail and fled, abandoning its pursuit of Alice. The Jabberwocky gently dug the tiny girl out of the snowbank, cradling her in his huge hands. Alice was terrified at first, having heard the stories of the fearsome, murderous Jabberwocky from the other maids at the castle. "P-please don't eat me!" she pleaded, shivering in fear as well as from the cold. But the Jabberwocky was kind and gentle as he soothed Alice. He spoke to her in a calm manner, his deep voice rumbling like thunder. "Don't be afraid, little one," he said. "I mean you no harm. You are cold and shivering, and I will keep you warm." He wrapped his massive arms around her, holding her close to his chest. As the warmth of the Jabberwocky's body seeped into her tiny form, Alice began to relax. He flew her to his cave, a vast cavernous space filled with glittering crystals and soft, mossy beds. He placed her on a bed of moss, and covered her with a soft, downy blanket. "Tomorrow morning, we will go to the kingdom where Miriana, the Queen of Diamonds lives," he said. "She is the Queen of Hearts' sister, and she can help us." Alice's eyes grew heavy, and she drifted off to sleep, her heart filled with gratitude for the Jabberwocky's hospitality. The last thing she heard was the Jabberwocky's gentle voice, whispering "Sleep tight, little one."
