**Into the Tempest**

Part 15

As they stepped out into the storm, the torrent of rain and wind hit them like a physical force, threatening to knock them off balance. Chris and Dakota clung to each other, their eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of Jed. The beam of the flashlight danced across the trees, casting eerie shadows on the forest floor. The wind howled through the branches, making it impossible to hear anything else. "I don't like this," Dakota shouted above the din of the storm, her voice trembling. Chris nodded, his eyes fixed on the trees. "We have to find him," he yelled back, his voice carrying away on the wind. They stumbled forward, their feet slipping on the wet earth. The storm seemed to be getting worse, the rain pounding down on them like a relentless drumbeat. Chris's eyes scanned the trees, but there was no sign of Jed. As they moved deeper into the forest, the darkness seemed to swallow them whole. The flashlight beam began to falter, and Chris knew they had to find shelter soon. But they couldn't give up now, not when Jed might still be out there. Suddenly, Dakota grabbed Chris's arm, her fingers digging deep into his skin. "Look!" she shouted, pointing into the darkness. Chris followed her gaze, and his heart skipped a beat. A figure was stumbling towards them, its features indistinct in the darkness. "Jed!" Chris yelled, his voice carrying above the storm. The figure stumbled closer, and Chris saw that it was Jed, his eyes vacant, his skin deathly pale. He was soaked to the bone, his clothes clinging to his body. "Jed, thank God," Dakota exclaimed, rushing towards him. But as they reached out to help him, Jed's eyes flickered, and he spoke in a voice that was barely audible. "Run," he whispered. "Get out of here." Chris and Dakota exchanged a fearful glance. What was happening? Why was Jed acting like this? But before they could ask any questions, Jed's eyes rolled back, and he crumpled to the ground, unconscious. "Jed, no!" Chris exclaimed, kneeling beside him. Dakota knelt on the other side of Jed, her eyes scanning his face. "We have to get him out of here," she said, her voice firm. "We have to get him back to the cabin." But as they tried to lift Jed, Chris realized that they were in grave danger. The storm was getting worse, and they were miles from anywhere. They had to find shelter, and fast. And then, Chris heard it. A low rumbling sound, growing louder by the second. "What's that?" Dakota shouted, her eyes wide with fear. Chris's heart sank as he realized the truth. "It's a landslide," he yelled back. "We have to get out of here, now!" As the ground began to shake beneath their feet, Chris and Dakota grabbed Jed and started to run, the storm and the landslide closing in on them like a deadly trap.
