The Countdown to Arrival
Part 27
As the weeks went on, Jacquie was getting closer and closer to giving birth. She and Noah were both ready to become parents, and their excitement was palpable. They had prepared the nursery, read up on parenting books, and even taken a few prenatal classes. Jacquie had been feeling like she was going to give birth at any moment, and Noah had been by her side every step of the way. Their daily routine had become a comfortable rhythm, with Jacquie spending her days lounging on the couch, watching TV, and taking leisurely walks around the block. Noah had been working from home, trying to get as much done as possible before the baby arrived. They had both been waiting with bated breath for the arrival of their twins, and they knew it could happen at any moment. One evening, as they were settling in for a quiet night at home, Jacquie suddenly felt a sharp pain in her stomach. She gasped, her eyes widening in surprise, and Noah immediately sat up beside her. "What's wrong?" he asked, concern etched on his face. Jacquie took a deep breath, trying to assess the situation. "I think it might be a contraction," she said, her voice trembling slightly. Noah quickly grabbed the pregnancy book they had been using, flipping to the section on labor. "Let's time it," he said, his voice calm and reassuring. "How long did the pain last?" Jacquie thought for a moment, trying to recall. "About 30 seconds," she replied. Noah nodded, jotting down some notes. "Okay, let's wait and see if another one comes. If they keep coming, we should head to the hospital." Jacquie nodded, trying to stay calm. She had been preparing for this moment for months, but she still felt a twinge of uncertainty. As they waited, Jacquie felt another pain, this one a bit stronger than the first. She gritted her teeth, trying to breathe through it, and Noah held her hand, encouraging her to relax. "Okay, I think we should go," he said, his voice firm. "Let's get the bag packed and head to the hospital." Jacquie nodded, a mix of excitement and nerves swirling in her stomach. They were really doing this – they were going to have their babies. Noah quickly grabbed their bag, which they had packed and left by the door, and they set off into the night, ready to meet their new additions. As they drove to the hospital, Jacquie felt another contraction, this one even stronger than the last. "Hold on, baby," she whispered, her eyes shining with tears. "We're almost there." Noah smiled, his eyes filled with love and reassurance. "You're doing great, Jacquie. We're in this together." And with that, they pulled into the hospital parking lot, ready to start their new journey as parents.
