Racing Against Fate

Part 2

Glenn Rhee's eyes were fixed on the road ahead, his foot pressed down on the accelerator as he sped down the deserted street. He had found this sleek, black sports car abandoned in a driveway, and he couldn't resist the urge to take it out for a spin. The wind whipped through his hair as he took a sharp turn, the tires screeching in protest. He felt alive, free from the fear and uncertainty that had gripped him since the outbreak. As he approached an intersection, he failed to notice the red light ahead and sped through it, his heart racing with excitement. He had been on his own since the chaos had erupted, and he had learned to rely only on himself. The thought of his little sister, Tessa, flashed through his mind, but he pushed it aside. He had no idea if she was even still alive. A few blocks away, Tessa was walking down the same street, her eyes scanning the deserted buildings. She had been searching for Glenn for what felt like an eternity, and she was starting to lose hope. She had just turned a corner when she heard the sound of screeching tires and a revving engine. Her head snapped up, and she saw a sleek, black sports car speeding towards her. Tessa's eyes widened as she realized who was behind the wheel. "Glenn?" she called out, her voice barely audible over the roar of the engine. Glenn's eyes were fixed on the road ahead, and he didn't notice his little sister standing in the middle of the street. Tessa took a step back, her heart racing with fear. She raised her arms, waving wildly as the car bore down on her. Glenn's eyes flicked up, and he slammed on the brakes just in time, the tires skidding on the pavement. The car came to a stop mere inches from Tessa's face, and Glenn's eyes locked onto his little sister. For a moment, they just stared at each other, both of them shocked and relieved. Then, Glenn's face broke into a wide grin, and he threw open the door, rushing towards Tessa. "Tessa!" he exclaimed, sweeping her into a tight hug. Tessa wrapped her arms around him, holding him tightly as tears of joy streamed down her face. As they hugged, Glenn couldn't help but think about how reckless he had been, speeding through the deserted streets without a care. He had been so caught up in the thrill of the moment, the freedom of being alive, that he hadn't even considered the possibility of running into his sister. He pulled back, looking at Tessa with a mixture of relief and guilt. "I've been looking all over for you," Tessa said, her voice shaking with emotion. Glenn's grin faltered, and he looked away, feeling a pang of guilt. "I've been looking for you too," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I'm sorry I didn't find you sooner." Tessa smiled, her eyes shining with tears. "You're here now," she said. "That's all that matters." As they stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, Glenn knew that he had to make a change. He couldn't keep running, couldn't keep living in the moment without thinking about the consequences. He had to start thinking about their survival, about finding a safe place to hide, about rebuilding their lives. But for now, he just held his little sister tight, grateful to have found her, grateful to be alive.
