Beyond the Devouring's Grasp

Part 27

I stumbled through the gate, my heart still racing from the close call with the Devouring. As I looked back, I saw Emily disappear into the void, and a pang of guilt and sadness washed over me. We had to keep moving, though. I turned to Harry, who was standing beside me, his eyes fixed on some point in the distance. "Harry, we need to find a way out of here," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. But Harry didn't respond. He just kept staring, his eyes glazed over with a far-off look. I felt a surge of fear. What was wrong with him? Suddenly, the four hotels - Wynn, Lila, Kael, and Sloane - appeared beside us, their eyes fixed on something in the distance. "What's going on?" I asked, following their gaze. A massive, carnivorous plant had emerged from the underbrush, its tendrils snaking across the ground like living whips. The plant's maw was open wide, revealing rows of razor-sharp teeth. "We need to take it down," Wynn said, drawing a dagger from her belt. The four hotels charged forward, their movements fluid and deadly. I watched in awe as they took down the plant, their blades slicing through its tendrils with ease. Lila used her agility to dodge the plant's snapping jaws, while Kael used his strength to pin it down. Sloane, meanwhile, used her magic to weaken the plant's roots, making it easier for the others to finish it off. As the plant let out a deafening screech and collapsed to the ground, I felt a surge of gratitude towards the four hotels. We couldn't have taken it down without them. "Thanks for the help," I said, smiling at them. Wynn nodded, her eyes scanning the surrounding area. "We need to keep moving. We have to find Harry." I looked at Harry, who was still standing frozen, his eyes fixed on some point in the distance. "Harry, snap out of it," I said, shaking him. But he didn't respond. The four hotels exchanged worried glances. "We need to get him out of this trance," Lila said. Kael nodded. "I think I can help with that." He placed a hand on Harry's shoulder, and a burst of energy flowed through him. Harry's eyes flickered, and he looked at us, his expression confused. "What...what happened?" he asked. "We're in the Hungerlands," I said, trying to keep my voice calm. "We need to find a way out." Harry's eyes widened, and he nodded. "I remember. The Devouring. I was trying to...I was trying to get us out." Wynn nodded. "We'll get you out. But first, we need to find a way to navigate this place." Sloane pulled out a map, studying it intently. "I think I can help with that. This map seems to be a layout of the Hungerlands. If we follow this path, it should lead us to a way out." We set off, following Sloane's lead. As we walked, I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched. The Devouring was still out there, waiting for us. But with the four hotels by our side, I felt a sense of hope. Maybe, just maybe, we could make it out of this place alive. As we journeyed on, the landscape shifted and twisted around us, revealing new and terrifying sights at every turn. But we pressed on, determined to find Harry and escape the Hungerlands. And then, in the distance, I saw it - a glimmer of light on the horizon. "Look," I said, pointing. The four hotels and Harry followed my gaze, and a surge of hope flowed through us. Maybe, just maybe, we were getting close to freedom.
