"Ashley's Desperate Plea"
Part 15
Ashley's heart sank as she looked at Gerald, his eyes still hard and unyielding. She knew she had to tread carefully, but she couldn't help feeling a sense of desperation wash over her. She reached out, her hand gently touching his cheek, and leaned in close. "Gerald, please," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I'm doing this because I care about you, because I want us to be happy together." Gerald's eyes flashed with anger, but Ashley could see the faintest glimmer of vulnerability behind them. She took a deep breath and pressed her lips to his, hoping to break through the barrier he had erected around himself. But Gerald was not in the mood for affection. He pushed her away, his hands flat against her chest, and stood up. "I'm going out," he said, his voice cold and detached. "Deal with this crap yourself." Ashley felt a pang of hurt and rejection as she looked up at him. She had been hoping to reach him, to connect with him on some level, but instead he was pushing her away. She sat there, frozen in shock, as Gerald turned and walked out of the room. The sound of the front door slamming shut behind him was like a punch to the gut. Ashley felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes as she sat there, feeling lost and alone. She had been trying to help him, to reach out to him, but he had rejected her. She stood up, her legs trembling beneath her, and walked over to the window. She looked out into the night, wondering where Gerald was going, and what he would do when he got there. She knew that he had a history of self-destructive behavior, and the thought of him out there, alone and vulnerable, filled her with a sense of dread. Ashley took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. She knew that she had to be strong, for herself and for their baby. She couldn't let Gerald's behavior pull her down, not now. But as she stood there, looking out into the night, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was losing him, that he was slipping away from her and she didn't know how to stop it. The room seemed empty and cold without Gerald, and Ashley felt a pang of sadness. She knew that she had to do something, to try and reach out to him, but she didn't know where to start. All she could do was stand there, looking out into the night, and hope that Gerald would come back to her, that he would let her in and let her help him.
