"Sweet Deception"
Part 16
As the night wore on, Ethan eventually succumbed to exhaustion and fell asleep on the couch, his bowl of popcorn still clutched in his hand. Lila and I exchanged a glance, and I could sense a subtle shift in the atmosphere. Jace, who had been quietly watching TV, suddenly got up and walked over to the kitchen, his movements fluid and confident. Lila got up and followed him, her eyes fixed on his broad back. I stayed behind, watching Ethan sleep peacefully, a small smile on my face. As I glanced back at Lila and Jace, I noticed Jace standing in front of the freezer, a pint of ice cream in his hand. He scooped out a generous helping and took a bite, his eyes closing in bliss. As he walked back into the living room, I couldn't help but notice the smudge of ice cream on his lips. Lila saw it too, and her eyes locked onto his, a spark of mischief dancing in their depths. She walked over to him, her movements deliberate and sensual. Without a word, she reached out and gently wiped away the ice cream from his lips, her fingers brushing against his skin. Then, in a bold move, she leaned in and pressed her lips to his. But Jace didn't respond. He didn't kiss her back, didn't even move to deepen the kiss. He just stood there, his eyes fixed on some point beyond Lila's shoulder, his expression unreadable. Lila's face fell, and she took a step back, her eyes flashing with hurt and rejection. I felt a pang of sympathy for her, but Jace just shrugged and took another bite of his ice cream, his eyes never leaving hers. The tension between them was palpable, and I could sense that this was more than just a simple rejection. As the silence between them grew, I realized that Jace was being deliberately cruel, his bad boy persona on full display. He was pushing Lila away, and I couldn't help but wonder why. What had she done to deserve this treatment? And what secrets was Jace hiding behind his tough exterior? Ethan, oblivious to the drama unfolding before him, continued to sleep peacefully, a contented smile on his face. But I was wide awake, my eyes fixed on Jace and Lila, my heart pounding with anticipation. What would happen next? Would Lila confront Jace about his behavior, or would she play it cool and pretend it didn't bother her? One thing was certain - this sleepover was about to get a whole lot more interesting.
