The Weight of Unseen Wounds

Part 6

As the verbal lashing continued, Judd felt like he was watching a train wreck in slow motion, unable to look away from the destruction unfolding on his screen. Mark's words cut deep, and Andrew's face crumpled as he struggled to hold back tears. Sarah's silence was deafening, her inaction a stark contrast to her husband's aggression. Judd's anger simmered, his mind racing with questions. How could Mark be so cruel to his own son? What had Andrew done to deserve such treatment? The more he watched, the more Judd realized that this was a pattern of behavior, a toxic dynamic that had been playing out for years. As the dinner conversation continued, Judd noticed that Andrew's responses were monosyllabic, his eyes cast downward in a gesture of defeat. Mark, on the other hand, seemed to be feeding off Andrew's misery, his words dripping with venom. Sarah, still silent, busied herself with the food, her eyes avoiding eye contact with either her husband or son. The dinner table was a battleground, with Mark wielding his words like a sword. Judd's heart ached for Andrew, who seemed to be shrinking before his eyes, his confidence and self-worth being chipped away with each passing moment. As the meal drew to a close, Mark pushed his chair back, his expression unyielding. "You're grounded, Andrew," he barked, his voice firm. "No phone, no computer, no leaving the house for a week. You need to learn some discipline." Andrew's face fell, his eyes welling up with tears. Sarah finally spoke up, her voice soft. "Mark, maybe that's not necessary..." But Mark cut her off, his expression unyielding. "No, it's exactly necessary. He needs to learn some respect." As the scene faded to black, Judd felt a sense of despair wash over him. He couldn't just sit back and watch; he had to do something. But what? He was just a silent observer, a voyeur into Andrew's life. As he sat there, frozen in indecision, Judd's mind began to wander. What was Andrew's story? What had led him to this point, to this toxic relationship with his parents? And what lay ahead for him? The feed flickered back to life, and Judd was jolted back to reality. Andrew was walking back to his room, his shoulders slumped in defeat. Judd's eyes followed him, his heart heavy with concern. As he watched, Judd noticed something that made his heart skip a beat. Andrew's laptop was still open on his desk, the screen glowing softly in the dim light. And on that screen, a chat window was open, a conversation in progress. Judd's curiosity was piqued. Who was Andrew talking to? And what were they saying? He leaned in, his eyes scanning the screen, as the conversation continued to unfold.
