**Chapter 6: Lucas's Panic**
Part 6
Lucas's eyes widened in terror as he watched Dorothy's body go limp, her head nodding forward as she lost consciousness. He felt a wave of panic wash over him, his mind racing with worst-case scenarios. He had never felt so helpless in his life, unable to protect the woman he loved. "Blanche, help!" he cried out, his voice shaking with desperation. "She's passing out!" Blanche rushed to their side, her face etched with concern. "Lucas, try to keep her upright," she said, her voice firm but calm. "We need to keep her awake." Lucas wrapped his arms around Dorothy, trying to hold her up, but her body was like a ragdoll, limp and unresponsive. He shook her gently, trying to rouse her, but she didn't stir. "Please, Dorothy, don't go to sleep," he whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. "Stay with me, baby." But it was no use. Dorothy's body was shutting down, and she was slipping away from them. Lucas felt a cold sweat break out on his forehead as he realized the gravity of the situation. Blanche quickly took charge, her voice calm and authoritative. "Lucas, we need to get her on the floor," she said. "We can't keep her upright like this." Lucas carefully lowered Dorothy to the floor, trying not to jostle her. Blanche quickly got down beside them, her hands checking Dorothy's pulse and breathing. "She's okay, Lucas," Blanche said, her voice reassuring. "She's just exhausted. We need to get her to a hospital, though." Lucas nodded, still feeling panicked. "What if she's okay?" he asked, his voice shaking. "What if she's just sleeping?" Blanche's expression was grim. "Lucas, she needs medical attention," she said. "We can't take any chances." The baby, sensing the tension in the room, let out a loud cry. Lucas looked down at the little one, feeling a pang of guilt and worry. He had never felt so scared and overwhelmed in his life. Blanche quickly got up and grabbed her phone, dialing 911 with trembling fingers. "Hello, emergency?" she said, her voice clear and calm. "We need an ambulance at our location. We just had a baby, and the mother is unconscious." As she talked to the operator, Lucas wrapped his arms around Dorothy, holding her close. He felt a wave of fear and uncertainty wash over him, but he pushed it aside, focusing on the present moment. He had to stay strong for Dorothy, for their baby, and for himself. The room was silent, the only sound the baby's cry and Blanche's calm voice on the phone. Lucas looked down at Dorothy, his heart heavy with worry, and whispered, "Please, baby, come back to me."
