The Shadows That Follow

Part 43

The days that followed were a blur of fear and uncertainty for both Oikawa and Kageyama. The mysterious figure continued to stalk them, sending Kageyama threatening texts and making appearances on the streets. At first, Oikawa saw and heard it too - the fleeting glimpses of a tall, imposing figure, the creepy messages on Kageyama's phone. But as the days went by, Oikawa began to feel like he was losing his grip on reality. He would look around, expecting to see the figure lurking in the shadows, but there would be no one there. The messages on Kageyama's phone continued to appear, but Oikawa couldn't shake the feeling that he was just imagining things. It wasn't until the third day that Oikawa realized he was no longer seeing the figure. He and Kageyama were walking home from practice, laughing and joking, when Kageyama suddenly froze. "Do you see that?" he whispered, his eyes fixed on a spot across the street. Oikawa followed his gaze, but there was no one there. "See what?" he asked, confusion etched on his face. Kageyama's eyes were wide with fear. "That person," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "They're watching us." Oikawa's heart sank as he realized that he was no longer seeing the figure. He tried to reassure Kageyama, telling him it was just his imagination, but deep down, he knew that something was off. As the days went by, Kageyama became increasingly withdrawn. He stopped attending practice, stopped socializing with their friends, and stopped leaving the house. Oikawa tried to reach out to him, to get him to talk about what was happening, but Kageyama just shook his head. "You're not seeing it, are you?" he said, his eyes haunted. "You're not hearing it." Oikawa felt a pang of guilt and helplessness. He knew that Kageyama was being stalked, but he couldn't see or hear it himself. He didn't know how to help his boyfriend, didn't know how to make him feel safe. One night, as they sat on the couch, Kageyama's phone buzzed. He looked at the screen, his face pale, and Oikawa's heart sank. "What is it?" he asked, his voice low. Kageyama's eyes locked on his. "It says... 'I'm always with you'." Oikawa tried to pull Kageyama into a hug, but Kageyama pushed him away. "You don't understand," he said, his voice cracking. "You're not seeing it. You're not hearing it. I'm alone in this." Oikawa felt a wave of despair wash over him. He knew that he had to do something, but he didn't know what. All he could do was sit there, helplessly watching as Kageyama descended deeper into fear and isolation.
