Disoriented Dawn
Part 55
Disoriented dawn broke over me like a cold splash of water, jolting me awake with a start. I was lying on a bed, in a room I didn't recognize. The last thing I remembered was walking with Dabi, trying to evade The Flame of Destruction. How did I end up here? As I sat up, rubbing my eyes, I noticed a figure sitting beside me. It was Oslo, a concerned expression on his face. "Good morning," he said softly, his voice laced with a gentle warmth. I blinked, trying to clear the haze from my mind. What was going on? How did Oslo end up next to me? And where was Dabi? "Where...where am I?" I stammered, my voice shaking slightly. Oslo smiled reassuringly. "You're safe," he said. "We're in a secure location. Dabi brought you here last night." I vaguely remembered walking with Dabi, but everything after that was a blur. I must have been more exhausted than I thought. I looked around the room, trying to take in my surroundings. It was a small, cozy space with a single bed and a dresser. There was a window, but it was covered with thick curtains, blocking out most of the light. "How long have I been asleep?" I asked Oslo, trying to piece together what had happened. Oslo checked his watch. "About six hours," he said. "Dabi said you were exhausted and needed rest. He told me to keep an eye on you." I frowned, feeling a surge of unease. Where was Dabi now? And why had he left me with Oslo? As I looked at Oslo, I noticed that he seemed...different. His expression was softer, his eyes warmer. It was as if he was trying to show me a side of himself that I hadn't seen before. "What's going on, Oslo?" I asked, my voice cautious. "What's happening with Dabi and The Flame of Destruction?" Oslo's expression turned serious, and he leaned in close. "Dabi will fill you in on the details," he said. "But for now, let's just say that we're in a bit of a precarious situation. We need to be careful." I nodded, feeling a sense of trepidation. What had I gotten myself into? And what did Oslo mean by "a bit of a precarious situation"? I was about to ask more questions when Oslo placed a gentle hand on my shoulder. "Rest for now," he said. "Dabi will be back soon, and he can explain everything to you." I nodded, feeling a wave of exhaustion wash over me again. As I lay back down, Oslo covered me with a blanket, his touch gentle. "Sleep," he whispered. "You're safe." But as I drifted off to sleep, I couldn't shake off the feeling that I was anything but safe.
