"A Sudden Interruption"

Part 50

The doorbell rang, piercing the silence of the apartment, and Taehyun's head jerked up from the book he was reading. He hadn't expected anyone, and a quick glance at the clock showed that it was already evening. He hesitated for a moment, wondering who it could be, before getting up to answer the door. As he opened the door, he was surprised to see Yeonjun standing in the hallway, a concerned expression on his face. "Taehyun, I was starting to worry," Yeonjun said, his eyes scanning Taehyun's apartment. "I tried calling you, but you didn't answer. What's going on?" Taehyun was taken aback by Yeonjun's sudden appearance, but he tried to play it cool. "I was just, uh, busy reading," he said, stepping aside to let Yeonjun in. As Yeonjun entered the apartment, his eyes widened in surprise. The room was cluttered with books, and Taehyun was sitting on the couch, surrounded by stacks of paper and empty food containers. Yeonjun's gaze lingered on Taehyun's disheveled appearance, and for a moment, he looked like he was about to say something. But then, Yeonjun's expression softened, and he shook his head. "I'm not going to judge you, Taehyun," he said, smiling wryly. "At least, not yet. But I do want to help." Taehyun looked up at Yeonjun, feeling a mix of emotions. He wasn't sure why Yeonjun was being so kind, but he couldn't deny that he needed help. "I don't know what's going on," he admitted, feeling a sense of vulnerability. "I was supposed to meet Joon-oh at the park, but he didn't show up. And then I just...lost track of time." Yeonjun nodded sympathetically, sitting down beside Taehyun on the couch. "Let's get you cleaned up, first," he said, gently pulling Taehyun to his feet. "And then we can talk about what to do next." As Yeonjun helped Taehyun shower and change, Taehyun couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude towards his friend. Yeonjun wasn't pushing him to talk about his feelings or trying to offer solutions; he was just being there, being present. When they sat down to eat a simple meal of noodles and vegetables, Yeonjun asked Taehyun about his day, listening attentively as Taehyun recounted his story. Taehyun felt a weight lift off his shoulders as he talked, and for the first time in hours, he felt like he could breathe again. As they finished their meal, Yeonjun smiled at Taehyun. "Don't worry, Taehyun," he said. "We'll figure this out together. And in the meantime, I'm not going anywhere."
