**Chapter 4: "A Selfless Decision"**
Part 4
The sound of Minjoo's laughter echoed through the hallway, and Chaewon's gaze lingered on her for a moment, his eyes tracing the gentle curve of her smile. He had always taken pride in being the one who made her smile, but lately, he had noticed that it was Yujin who seemed to bring out the most radiant gleam in her eyes. As he watched them from afar, Chaewon felt a pang of jealousy, but it was quickly replaced by a sense of resignation. He knew that Minjoo's heart belonged to someone else, and he couldn't bear the thought of her being unhappy. The memory of their cordial but unemotional interactions replayed in his mind, and he realized that he had been holding onto a facade. That evening, as Chaewon sat in his room, staring out the window at the darkening sky, he made a decision. He couldn't keep pretending that everything was fine when it wasn't. He couldn't keep Minjoo tied to him out of obligation or family expectations. She deserved better, and he deserved to see her happy. The next day, Chaewon sought Minjoo out, finding her in the student council office, her eyes fixed on a stack of papers in front of her. He knocked softly on the doorframe, and she looked up, a hint of surprise in her eyes. "Minjoo, can we talk?" he asked, his voice low and gentle. Minjoo's expression changed, a flicker of unease crossing her face. "Of course, Chaewon. What's up?" They stepped out of the office, into the quiet of the hallway, and Chaewon took a deep breath before speaking. "Minjoo, I know you're not in love with me. I know your heart belongs to someone else." Minjoo's eyes widened, and she took a step back, as if trying to distance herself from the truth. "Chaewon, I...I don't know what you're talking about." Chaewon smiled sadly, his eyes locking onto hers. "Don't lie to me, Minjoo. I've seen the way you look at Yujin. I've seen the way you smile when you're around him. And I have to admit, it's made me realize that I don't want to be in the way of your happiness." The words hung in the air, like a challenge, and Minjoo's face went pale. She looked like she had been punched in the gut, and Chaewon's heart ached for her. "Chaewon, what are you saying?" she whispered, her voice trembling. "I'm saying that I want you to be happy, Minjoo. And if that means being with Yujin, then I won't stand in your way. I'm willing to let you go, to break our engagement and give you the freedom to choose who you truly want to be with." Minjoo's eyes welled up with tears, and she looked at Chaewon like she was seeing him for the first time. "Chaewon, I...I don't know what to say." Chaewon's smile was gentle, his eyes filled with a deep sadness. "You don't have to say anything, Minjoo. I just want you to be happy. And if that means I'm not the one who gets to be by your side, then that's okay." As he turned to leave, Minjoo felt a wave of despair wash over her. She had never expected Chaewon to be so selfless, so willing to let her go. She had always taken him for granted, assuming that he would be there for her, no matter what. But now, as she watched him walk away, she realized that she had been wrong. Chaewon was more than just a fiancé; he was a person with feelings and desires, and she had hurt him deeply. The sound of his footsteps faded into the distance, and Minjoo felt a sob well up in her throat. She had lost him, and she didn't know if she would ever get him back.
