**A Family Gathering**
Part 3
The warm sunlight streaming through the windows of Reba's house highlighted the excited chatter of the family as they gathered in the dining room. Maya and Brock had arrived a little earlier, and Brock's kids, Van and Cheyenne, were bubbling with energy, eager to spend the day with their dad and his new partner. Kyra, Brock's son, was quietly observing the scene, his eyes fixed on Maya with a curious expression. As they took their seats at the table, Reba, Brock's mother, beamed with joy, surveying her family. "I'm so glad we could all get together today," she said, her voice filled with warmth. Maya, sitting beside Brock, smiled at the children, who were chattering excitedly about their day. Elizabeth, Van and Cheyenne's two-year-old daughter, was sitting in her high chair, banging on the tray with a spoon, making everyone laugh. Brock's eyes met Maya's, and he could see the happiness radiating from her. She was fitting in seamlessly with his family, and he was grateful for that. As they began to pass the food around the table, the conversation flowed easily, with everyone sharing stories and jokes. Van, who was sitting across from Brock, caught his eye and mouthed, "So, you're and Maya are a thing now?" Brock nodded, and Van grinned, making a thumbs-up gesture. Cheyenne, sitting beside Van, whispered something in her ear, and Van chuckled, making Cheyenne giggle. Kyra, who had been quiet until now, spoke up, "Dad, can I ask Maya something?" Brock nodded, and Kyra turned to Maya, "Do you like hiking?" Maya smiled, "I love hiking! I've been on some amazing trails in the mountains." Kyra's eyes lit up, "Cool! Maybe we can go on a hike together soon?" As the meal drew to a close, Reba stood up, "I have a special dessert prepared, and I think Elizabeth wants to help me serve it." Elizabeth squealed with excitement, and Reba handed her a small tray with a miniature cupcake on it. As they finished their dessert, Brock leaned over to Maya and whispered, "You know, I think this is exactly what I needed – a family dinner with the people I love." Maya smiled, her eyes shining with happiness, "I'm glad I could be a part of it." As they lingered around the table, enjoying each other's company, Brock couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment. This was what he had been missing – a sense of belonging and connection with his loved ones. Just as they were about to clear the table, the doorbell rang. "That must be Jake," Reba said, getting up to answer the door. Brock's son, Jake, walked in, his eyes scanning the room until they landed on his family. As Jake made his way to the table, Brock couldn't help but notice the look of curiosity on his face as he took in the scene before him. Maya, sensing his gaze, turned to him and smiled, and Jake's expression softened. The evening drew to a close, with everyone saying their goodbyes and thanking Reba for the wonderful dinner. As they walked out of the house, Maya turned to Brock, "I had a great time today. Your family is amazing." Brock smiled, putting his arm around her, "I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think they're starting to like you." Maya laughed, "I think they're starting to like me a little too much." As they walked to their car, Brock couldn't help but feel grateful for this new chapter in his life, one that included Maya and the love and support of his family.
