"Confusion and Desire"
Part 39
Shizuo couldn't stop thinking about Izaya as he lay in the bed, his mind racing with questions and emotions. He couldn't sleep, and the more he tried to clear his head, the more jumbled his thoughts became. Vanitas's smile kept flashing in his mind, and he couldn't shake off the feeling of disappointment and confusion that lingered long after the movie had ended. Finally, unable to bear the silence and emptiness of the guest room, Shizuo threw off the covers and got out of bed. He walked quietly out of the room, his bare feet making barely a sound on the floor. He stood outside Izaya's door, his hand hesitating on the doorknob as he wondered if he should intrude. But his curiosity and desire to talk to Izaya won out in the end, and he slowly turned the handle and pushed the door open. Izaya was fast asleep, his chest rising and falling with each gentle breath. Shizuo's eyes lingered on Izaya's peaceful face, and for a moment, he just stood there, taking in the sight of his friend. Then, without thinking, Shizuo climbed into bed beside Izaya, his movements quiet so as not to wake him. Izaya stirred slightly, but didn't wake up, and Shizuo found himself lying next to him, their bodies almost touching. "Shizu-chan?" Izaya's voice was husky with sleep, and he stirred again, this time opening his eyes to find Shizuo lying beside him. Shizuo's face went still as Izaya's eyes locked onto his, a mixture of surprise and curiosity in their depths. "What are you doing here?" Izaya asked, his voice low and gentle. Shizuo shrugged, trying to play it cool despite the butterflies in his stomach. "I couldn't sleep," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. Izaya's eyes narrowed slightly, and he sat up, his movements quiet. "You could have tried to sleep some more," he said, his voice laced with amusement. Shizuo shook his head, his eyes locked onto Izaya's. "I couldn't," he said, his voice soft. "I was thinking about... everything." Izaya's expression turned serious, and he reached out to gently brush a strand of hair out of Shizuo's face. "About what?" he asked, his voice low and gentle. Shizuo's heart skipped a beat as Izaya's fingers touched his skin, sending shivers down his spine. "About us," he said finally, his voice barely above a whisper. Izaya's eyes locked onto Shizuo's, and for a moment, they just stared at each other, the air thick with tension and unspoken emotions. Then, Izaya's face softened, and he reached out to gently pull Shizuo into a hug. "Let's talk about it in the morning, okay?" Izaya said, his voice gentle and soothing. Shizuo nodded, feeling a sense of peace wash over him as he rested his head on Izaya's shoulder. He knew that he still had questions, and that their conversation was far from over. But for now, he was content to just be near Izaya, to feel his warmth and his presence.
