Beyond the Facade of Ambition

Part 261

As I sat across from Shigaraki, his words still echoing in my mind, I couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to his proposal than met the eye. He wanted to help me, to guide me, and to provide me with the tools I needed to achieve great things. But I knew that there had to be more to it than that. There had to be a catch, a hidden agenda that I couldn't quite see. "Why do you want me to basically help the heroes and still go against you?" I asked, my voice direct and to the point. Shigaraki's smile faltered for a moment, and he leaned forward, his eyes locked onto mine. "Ah, Vesper, you're thinking in terms of black and white, good and evil," he said, his voice dripping with condescension. "But the world is far more complicated than that. The heroes, as you call them, are not the only ones who can create change. And I, for one, am not the villain that you seem to think I am." I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by his words. "Not the villain?" I repeated. "You've been trying to destroy the world, Shigaraki. You've been using your powers to wreak havoc and chaos. How can you not be a villain?" Shigaraki chuckled, a low, rumbling sound. "Ah, but that's where you're wrong, Vesper," he said. "I'm not trying to destroy the world. I'm trying to change it. I'm trying to break free from the constraints of the current system, to create a new order, one that is more... flexible, more adaptable." He leaned back in his chair, a faraway look in his eyes. "The heroes, as you call them, are just trying to maintain the status quo. They're trying to preserve the old order, to keep things the way they've always been. But I'm not interested in that. I'm interested in progress, in evolution." I frowned, trying to understand his perspective. "And you think I'm the key to this new order?" I asked, my voice skeptical. Shigaraki nodded, his eyes snapping back into focus. "Yes, Vesper. I think you have the potential to be a game-changer. You have the heart of a leader, and the passion to drive change. And with my guidance, I think you could achieve great things." I shook my head, trying to clear the cobwebs. "But what about your own goals?" I asked. "What do you hope to gain from all of this?" Shigaraki's smile grew wider, and he leaned forward, his eyes glinting with intensity. "Ah, Vesper," he said. "My goals are not important. What's important is the end result. And if you're willing to work with me, I think we can achieve something truly remarkable."
