The Unexpected Twist

Part 8

As I nodded eagerly, Elizabeth's expression turned serious, and she leaned back in her chair. "There's just one thing, Iris," she said, her voice measured. "I may have misled you slightly earlier." I felt a twinge of unease as she paused, her eyes locked on mine. "What do you mean?" I asked, my voice cautious. Elizabeth's smile returned, but it was tinged with a hint of mischief. "The first name of the third Link," she said, her voice dripping with drama. "It starts with S, has five letters, and is almost exclusively given to females... but it's not Sasha." I felt a surge of confusion as I tried to process her words. "What is it, then?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Elizabeth's eyes sparkled with amusement as she revealed the truth. "The first name of the third Link is actually Susan." I stared at her, my mind racing as I tried to connect the dots. Susan Link... and then it hit me. I couldn't believe it. "You can't be serious," I said, my voice shaking with astonishment. Elizabeth's expression turned grave, and she nodded. "I'm afraid I am, Iris. The third Link is none other than Susan Link, the Sasquatch also known as Sasquatch or Bigfoot." I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. A Sasquatch? The recent disappearances had been mostly humans, and now a mythical creature? It was too much to take in. And then I remembered Lionel Frost, the Englishman who had given the Sasquatch his last name. This was getting ridiculous. "Susan Link?" I repeated, trying to wrap my head around it. "But how is that possible? And what about the stories, the backgrounds, and the authors who created them?" Elizabeth leaned forward, her eyes locked on mine. "That's what we're going to find out, Iris. Are you ready to dig deeper and uncover the truth behind the Links' disappearances?"
