"Revelations and Unexpected Visitors"
Part 22
The sunlight streaming through the window was warm and inviting, but Maya's eyes fluttered open to the sound of her phone ringing, shrill and insistent. She groggily reached over to silence it, her eyes scanning the room as she took in the unfamiliar surroundings. The memories of the previous night came flooding back, and a smile spread across her face as she saw Nick and Sabrina still entwined in a tangled mess of sheets and blankets. As she finally silenced the phone, it started ringing again, and she laughed, throwing off the covers to get to it. "Hello?" she said, her voice husky from sleep. "Maya, it's Bella! I'm coming to visit with Edward, and I was wondering if we could crash at your place for a bit?" Bella's voice was bubbly and excited, and Maya's eyes widened as she sat up in bed. "Of course, Bella! That sounds like so much fun. When were you thinking of coming?" Maya asked, her mind racing with the implications of having Bella and Edward stay with her. "We were thinking of coming tomorrow. Edward and I have been cooped up in Forks for too long, and we need a change of scenery. Plus, I want to introduce you to Edward," Bella said, and Maya could almost hear the excitement radiating from her friend's voice. Maya's eyes met Nick's and Sabrina's, who were both watching her with interest. "That sounds perfect. We'll make sure to have a room ready for you both," Maya said, swinging her legs over the side of the bed. As she hung up the phone, Nick and Sabrina exchanged a curious glance. "Who was that?" Sabrina asked, her voice low and husky. "Bella Swan. She's coming to visit with her boyfriend, Edward Cullen," Maya said, her eyes sparkling with amusement. Nick's eyes narrowed. "Edward Cullen? The Edward Cullen?" Maya nodded. "The one and only. He's a vampire, by the way." Sabrina's eyes widened. "A vampire? That's... interesting." Maya shrugged. "Yeah, I know. But Bella's a great friend, and I'm sure it'll be fine." As they chatted, Maya's phone beeped with an incoming text from an unknown number. She raised an eyebrow as she read the message. "What is it?" Nick asked, his eyes locked on hers. Maya's eyes scanned the message, and her face went pale. "It's Edward. He says he needs to talk to me about something before he arrives." Sabrina's eyes narrowed. "What does he want to talk about?" Maya shrugged. "I don't know, but I have a feeling it's going to be interesting." As they waited for Edward and Bella to arrive, Maya couldn't help but feel a sense of trepidation. What did Edward want to talk about? And how would Nick and Sabrina react when they found out about her... complicated past? The question was answered sooner rather than later, as Edward and Bella arrived at the doorstep, Edward's piercing gaze scanning the room as he took in the scene before him. "So, Maya, I have to ask," Edward said, his voice low and smooth. "What are you?" Maya took a deep breath, a small smile playing on her lips. "I'm a lot of things, Edward. I'm a Kryptonian, for one. A shadow hunter, to be precise. I also happen to be a banshee, and I have chaos magic." Edward's eyes widened, and Bella's jaw dropped. "A Kryptonian?" Edward repeated. Maya nodded. "Yeah, it's a long story. But the short version is that I'm not entirely human." As Edward's gaze probed hers, Maya threw up a mental shield, blocking his vampiric mind-reading abilities. Bella's eyes widened as she realized what was happening. "And I have a mental shield, Edward," Maya said, her voice firm. "You can't read my mind, and you can't read Bella's either." Edward's eyes narrowed, but he nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "I see. Well, I suppose that's good to know." As they all stood there, the air thick with tension, Nick and Sabrina exchanged a curious glance. They had no idea what was going on, but they were about to find out. "Maya, can I talk to you for a minute?" Nick asked, his voice low. Maya nodded, and they stepped outside, leaving the others to get acquainted. "So, what's going on?" Nick asked, his eyes locked on hers. Maya took a deep breath. "I guess it's time I told you about my past, Nick. It's not exactly... ordinary." Nick's eyes widened as Maya began to explain, and Sabrina listened intently, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. As the afternoon wore on, the group of them sat down to talk, and Maya revealed more about her past, her abilities, and her complicated history. It was a lot to take in, but they were all determined to make it work. After all, they had each other now, and that was all that mattered.
