Chapter 3: An Unexpected Revelation

Part 3

"A.. A.. D-Dragon" my dad stuttered out, clearly shocked by these strange turns of events, as dragons were known to be mythical or magical creatures of legend. I was equally surprised that my thoughts were confirmed about what the creature was. I looked at my mother, seeing her calm and surprised face as she slowly lowered her wand while Saphira hopped on my shoulder in a protective manner. Though, due to her bond with me, she could sense that I didn't see the woman in front of me as a danger. I turned to look at Saphira and said, "Saphira, don't worry, these are my parents. They're good people. You don't have to be worried about them." At my words, Saphira calmed down, aligning with my mother's calm demeanor as she sighed, finally starting to relax as she realized I wasn't in any danger. Then, Saphira spread her wings and momentarily flapped them before flying and gliding over to my mother and hopping onto her shoulder, looking at her now more curiously. My mother's eyes softened, seeing how beautiful Saphira was and how she was unlike any dragon she had seen before. She looked at her inquisitively, while Saphira preened at my mother's praise. My dad, on the other hand, was still in shock, stuttering out a question, "A-are...dragons...real?" My mother replied, "Yes, there are things like dragons in this world, though they're not very common and are highly territorial and usually stick to their own and rarely interact with humans. This is the first time I've seen a dragon interact, let alone bond with anyone in such a friendly manner." She added, "And I'm very skilled in Magizoology, but I've never seen a dragon quite like her. How curious... I'll have to call one of my old colleagues in the magical community, good old Newt Scamander, a famous Magizoologist, or as we and my friends call him, Professor Newt, when he taught Magizoology at Hogwarts, the number one wizard and witches school of magic in all of England and most of Europe." I expected our son would be getting a letter in the owl mail two months from now in August. But, beside the point now, I think I have a lot to tell you both about my past life as a former MBI agent, and no, it doesn't mean Men in Black, it stands for Magical Bureau Investigation. Figure it as the magical FBI; my job is to ensure that magic is kept a secret and that the laws of magic are enforced. It's also why I didn't tell you about my past life, as it's forbidden to speak about magic to Muggles unless someone in the family has magic, and since our son has awakened his magic, I'm now free, legally, to tell you about my past life. "It's not that I didn't want to," my mother said, lovely and affectionately at the end of her speech. "It's just that I was legally bound not to. I'd rather not have to erase the memories of my loved ones of me. Mind manipulation magic always puts a nasty taste in my mouth, morally. One of the reasons I was glad to retire and become your loving wife, Josh." She magically pulled up a chair under Josh as he let out a gasp in shock and surprise, coming to grips with this new reality. I sat down Indian-style next to him, looking at my mother curiously and in surprise.
