A Day of Confinement

Part 3

Miles O'Brien woke up to the sound of his comms system beeping, signaling an incoming message from Julian. He groggily opened his eyes, feeling a bit more tired than he had expected. The events of the previous day came flooding back, and he remembered Julian's stern warning to take it easy. As he sat up, a wave of nausea washed over him, and he quickly lay back down. He was still feeling a bit lightheaded, and his throat was sore from the coughing. Miles decided that it was best to take Julian's advice and spend the day in his quarters, recovering. The hours ticked by slowly as Miles lay in bed, trying to rest. He watched some entertainment on his viewscreen, but mostly he just slept or dozed off. However, as the day wore on, his nausea started to get worse. He felt a cold sweat breaking out on his forehead, and his stomach was churning. Miles knew he needed help, and he couldn't wait any longer. He reached for his comms badge and activated it. "Julian, I need your help," he said, trying to keep his voice steady. Julian's voice came through the comms system, concerned. "Miles, what's wrong? How are you feeling?" Miles swallowed hard, trying to calm his stomach. "I'm feeling a bit worse, to be honest. The nausea is getting worse, and I'm starting to feel a bit dizzy." There was a pause, and then Julian said, "I'm on my way. Stay put, and don't try to do anything except breathe." Miles smiled wryly to himself, grateful for Julian's care. He waited for what felt like an eternity for Julian to arrive. When he finally did, Miles was relieved to see his friend's familiar face. Julian quickly assessed Miles' condition and administered some medication to help with the nausea. Miles felt a bit better almost immediately, and he was grateful to Julian for his help. As Julian worked to stabilize Miles' condition, he couldn't help but scold him gently. "I told you to take it easy, Miles. You're not exactly following doctor's orders, are you?" Miles looked up at Julian, feeling a bit sheepish. "I'm sorry, Julian. I just didn't think it would get this bad." Julian sighed, shaking his head. "You need to take care of yourself, Miles. You're not invincible, you know." Miles nodded, feeling a bit chastened. He knew Julian was right; he needed to take care of himself, especially if he wanted to keep working as Chief Engineer. As the day drew to a close, Miles felt a bit better, thanks to Julian's care. He was grateful for his friend's concern and vowed to take it easy from now on. After all, he didn't want to end up in Sickbay again anytime soon. Julian smiled, seeming to sense Miles' resolve. "Good. I'm glad we understand each other, Miles. Now, get some rest, and try to stay out of trouble, okay?" Miles nodded, feeling a bit more optimistic about his chances of recovery. With Julian's help, he was confident that he would be back to his old self in no time.
