"A Difficult Introduction"

Part 94

A few hours had passed since Avery's arrival, and Avan was eager to introduce his son Alex to his little sister. He had been preparing Alex for the visit, explaining to him that he would soon have a new sibling, but he hadn't expected the reaction that was about to unfold. As Avan walked into the hospital room with Alex by his side, Ashley's eyes lit up with excitement. "Hey, buddy!" she exclaimed, smiling at Alex. "Come meet your little sister Avery." Alex's eyes widened as he took in the sight of the tiny baby lying in Ashley's arms. At first, he seemed curious, taking a step closer to get a better look. But as he gazed at Avery, his expression suddenly changed. His face contorted in confusion, and his eyes narrowed. "No," Alex whispered, his voice trembling. "No baby." Avan's smile faltered as he realized that Alex's reaction was not the enthusiastic one he had been hoping for. "Alex, buddy, this is your little sister Avery," he said, trying to sound calm. But Alex was beyond reason. He took another step back, his eyes fixed on Avery with a mixture of fear and anger. "No, no, no!" he shouted, his voice rising to a scream. "I don't want a baby! I don't want a sister!" Ashley's face fell as she watched Alex's meltdown. She had expected some adjustment period, but she hadn't anticipated this level of resistance. Avan tried to intervene, kneeling down to Alex's level and speaking softly, but Alex was having none of it. He began to kick and punch the air, his face red with rage. "No baby! No, no, no!" he screamed, over and over. The hospital room fell silent, with only Alex's wails and the sound of Avery's gentle cooing breaking the stillness. The nurse rushed over to try and calm Alex down, but he pushed her away, his eyes fixed on Avery with a fierce determination. Avan exchanged a worried glance with Ashley, unsure of how to proceed. He had expected some difficulty introducing Alex to his new sister, but he hadn't anticipated this level of distress. As Alex continued to scream and cry, Avan realized that this was just the beginning of a long and difficult journey.
