"Confronting the Past"

Part 21

The words I'd been holding back for so long finally found their way out of my mouth, my voice shaking with a mix of anger and hurt as I glared at Captain Levi. "Levi, you're a cheater and I was stupid for believing you loved me," I spat, my eyes welling up with tears. "Tell me, Levi, am I not enough?" Captain Levi's expression crumpled, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of shame in his eyes. But then, his mask slipped back into place, and he looked at me with a stoic gaze. "Kenzy, that's not fair," he said, his voice calm and collected. I took a step closer to him, my heart pounding in my chest. "Fair?" I repeated, my voice rising. "You want to talk about fair? You manipulated me, Levi. You used me for your own purposes, and then you discarded me like I was nothing." Captain Levi's eyes narrowed, and for a moment, I thought he was going to lash out at me. But then, he seemed to rein himself in, and his expression softened. "Kenzy, I...I was wrong," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I was blind, and I made a mistake. But I swear to you, I never meant to hurt you." I laughed, a bitter sound that caught in my throat. "You never meant to hurt me?" I repeated. "You never meant to hurt me, but you did. You hurt me more than you'll ever know." Captain Levi took a step forward, his eyes locked on mine. "Kenzy, please," he said, his voice filled with emotion. "I'm trying to make it right. I'm trying to apologize, to make amends. Can't you just...can't you just forgive me?" I shook my head, feeling a wave of sadness wash over me. "Forgive you?" I repeated. "You want me to forgive you? After what you did? I don't know if I can ever forgive you, Levi." The air between us seemed to vibrate with tension as we stood there, locked in a silent standoff. And then, Captain Levi spoke, his voice low and husky. "Kenzy, I don't expect you to forgive me," he said. "But I want you to know that I...I care about you. Deeply. And I want to make things right between us." I raised an eyebrow, searching his face for any sign of insincerity. But all I saw was a deep sadness, and a longing that seemed to echo my own. For a moment, I wavered. Maybe, just maybe, I could find it in my heart to forgive him. But then, I remembered the pain he'd caused me, and my resolve hardened. I turned to walk away, but not before I heard his whispered words. "Kenzy, wait..."
