A Chance Encounter

Part 2

The next morning, Helen was sipping her coffee and checking her emails when she heard a gentle voice behind her. "Hey, I couldn't help but think about our little collision yesterday." She turned to see Lewis standing behind her, a small smile playing on his lips. "I got you something to help with the coffee stain." Helen's eyes widened as Lewis handed her a small packet of Tide To Go Instant Stain Remover. "You didn't have to do that," she said, feeling a little touched by the gesture. But Lewis wasn't finished yet. "Actually, I was thinking, why don't I just take your shirt to the dry cleaners for you? I've got a guy who owes me a favor, and I can get it done for free." Helen was taken aback. She couldn't remember the last time someone had offered to do something so kind for her, especially not someone like Lewis Pullman. "That's really not necessary," she said, trying to politely decline. But Lewis seemed insistent. "Come on, it's the least I can do after ruining your shirt. Plus, I've got a feeling you're not the type of person who likes to accept favors from people." Helen felt a little flustered. She didn't know how to respond to Lewis's offer, or why he was being so kind to her. She wasn't used to people like him being so considerate of her. "Really, Lewis, it's okay. I can just use this stain remover and-" But Lewis cut her off, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "No, no, I've already made up my mind. I'll send my assistant to pick up your shirt and bring it back to you once it's been cleaned." Helen felt a little baffled. She didn't know what to make of Lewis's behavior. He seemed genuinely interested in helping her, but she couldn't shake the feeling that there was something else behind his actions. "Thank you, Lewis," she said finally, trying to sound sincere. "That's really kind of you." Lewis smiled, seeming to expect her to accept his offer. But when Helen politely declined again, he looked taken aback. He raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable. "Okay, no problem," he said finally, tucking the stain remover into her hand. "Just...consider it a thank you for not hating me after our little collision." Helen laughed, feeling a little relieved. "I'll keep that in mind," she said, smiling up at him. Lewis grinned, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Good," he said, before turning and walking away. Helen watched him go, feeling a little bewildered. What had just happened? And why did she feel like she was going to be seeing a lot more of Lewis Pullman in the days to come?
