**Captivity's Edge**
Part 1
Mori's world went dark, one moment she was walking home from a late-night shift at the hospital, and the next, she was waking up in a cold, sterile room. She tried to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through her head, and she fell back onto the bed. Groggily, she assessed her surroundings. The room was small, with concrete walls and a single, flickering fluorescent light overhead. A metal door with a small window was the only exit she could see. Panic set in as she scrambled to remember how she got there. She recalled walking home, lost in thought, and then... nothing. A kidnapper? Impossible. She was a doctor, a respected member of her community. Who would dare? As she struggled to piece together her memories, the door creaked open, and a figure entered. He was tall, with piercing blue eyes and chiseled features that seemed almost... calculated. A small, cruel smile played on his lips. "Welcome, Mori," he said, his voice low and smooth. "I've been waiting for you. My name is Cassius, and you'll be staying with me for a while." Mori tried to speak, but her voice was hoarse from disuse. She coughed, trying to clear her throat. Cassius handed her a glass of water, which she hesitantly took. "You're safe, for now," he said, his eyes glinting with amusement. "But don't think about escaping. This place is... secure. You'll learn to appreciate the... comforts I provide." As he turned to leave, Mori noticed a small, sleek device on the bedside table. It was a smartwatch, but it looked... off. A screen flickered to life, displaying a countdown timer: 72 hours. "What is this?" Mori asked, her voice shaking. Cassius paused, his smile growing wider. "A little game we can play. You have 72 hours to adjust to your new surroundings. After that... well, things will get interesting." He walked out of the room, leaving Mori alone with her thoughts. The smartwatch's timer seemed to mock her, ticking away with an otherworldly rhythm. As the hours passed, Mori's anxiety grew. She paced back and forth, trying to find a weakness in the room, but there was none. The door was solid, the window too small to fit through. As night began to fall, Mori collapsed onto the bed, exhausted and scared. The darkness closing in around her, she wondered if she'd ever escape Captivity's Edge. The smartwatch's timer seemed to pulse with an ominous energy, counting down to some unknown reckoning. Mori's thoughts swirled, her sense of time fragmenting. She was trapped, at the mercy of a captor who seemed to take pleasure in her fear. As the hours ticked by, she began to lose track of reality. Was it day or night? Had hours passed, or was it mere minutes? The uncertainty gnawed at her, eroding her resolve. She was a doctor, a problem-solver, but in this place, she was nothing. A pawn, at best. As the timer ticked closer to its deadline, Mori steeled herself for what was to come. She had 24 hours left. What would Cassius do to her then? And what would she do to survive? The questions swirled in her mind, but one thing was certain: she would have to find a way to hold on to her sanity, and her will to live.
