A Moment of Uncertainty
Part 4
As we were all sitting there smoking the blunt, the rotation finally made it to Adrian, who looked at the rolled joint in his hands with a mixture of hesitation and amusement. His eyes scanned the circle, and when they landed on me, I could sense a flicker of uncertainty. It was a look I was all too familiar with, one that I'd grown accustomed to over the years. People often underestimated me, assuming that my innocent appearance meant I didn't partake in certain activities. But I did, and I was about to prove it. Adrian seemed to be wondering who to pass the blunt to next, his eyes lingering on me for a moment before I took matters into my own hands. I reached out and gently took the blunt from his hands, our fingers touching briefly as I did so. The spark of electricity that ran through my body was undeniable, and I could sense Adrian's gaze on me as I took a deep breath, preparing for my first hit. As I brought the blunt to my lips, I could feel everyone's eyes on me. Jake and Alaina were watching with interest, Carter was grinning, and Adrian's eyes were fixed on me with a mixture of curiosity and concern. I took a small hit, feeling the smoke fill my lungs, and then exhaled slowly. The familiar buzz began to spread through my body, and I felt a sense of relaxation wash over me. "Thanks," I said, handing the blunt back to Jake, who was chuckling. "No problem, cuz," he replied, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Welcome to the party." The conversation continued, with everyone laughing and joking around. Adrian seemed to have relaxed, his earlier hesitation forgotten. As we sat there, passing the blunt and enjoying the warm summer evening, I couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging. This was what I loved about spending time with my cousins – it was always like coming home. As the night wore on, the music got louder, and the smell of burgers and hot dogs wafted through the air, making my stomach growl with hunger. I glanced over at Adrian, who caught my eye and smiled. For a moment, we just looked at each other, the connection between us palpable. I felt a flutter in my chest, and I knew that this was just the beginning of something. But for now, I was content to simply enjoy the moment, surrounded by the people I loved, and the warmth of the summer evening.
