The Unsettling Encounter
Part 4
As Judd emerged from the trees, Andrew felt a shiver run down his spine. Judd's eyes were fixed intently on him, and Andrew couldn't help but feel like he was being pulled into some kind of vortex. Nick, sensing Andrew's unease, placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "Hey, guys," Judd repeated, his voice low and even. "What's up?" He smiled, but it was a cold, calculated smile that made Andrew's skin crawl. Andrew tried to play it cool, but his voice came out shaky. "Not much, Judd. Just swimming and hanging out." He glanced over at Nick, who was watching Judd with a mixture of suspicion and curiosity. Judd nodded, his eyes never leaving Andrew's face. "Cool. I was just out for a hike and I saw you guys down here. Thought I'd come say hi." He paused, his gaze lingering on Andrew. "You look a bit...pale, Andrew. Are you okay?" Andrew nodded, feeling a growing sense of unease. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a bit...tired, I guess." He tried to brush it off, but Judd's intense stare made him feel like he was under a microscope. Judd nodded sympathetically, but his eyes didn't leave Andrew's face. "You should be careful, though. The sun can be pretty strong today." He took a step closer, his movements eerily silent. Nick, sensing that something was off, stepped forward. "Yeah, we will. Thanks for the warning, Judd." He placed himself between Andrew and Judd, subtly positioning himself as a barrier. But Judd barely acknowledged Nick's presence. "So, Andrew, how's school going?" he asked, his voice low and intense. Andrew shrugged, feeling a growing sense of discomfort. "It's going okay, I guess. Just trying to get through the semester." He tried to sound casual, but Judd's questions felt like an interrogation. Judd nodded, his eyes never leaving Andrew's face. "I'm sure it's not easy. You're a smart kid, though. I'm sure you'll do fine." He paused, his gaze lingering on Andrew. "I've been thinking about you a lot lately, Andrew. You seem like a really interesting guy." Andrew felt a shiver run down his spine. What did Judd mean by that? And why was he being so... intense? He glanced over at Nick, who was watching Judd with a mixture of suspicion and concern. Nick, sensing that something was off, tried to steer the conversation back to safer topics. "So, Judd, what have you been up to lately?" But Judd barely acknowledged Nick's question. "Oh, just the usual. Hiking and stuff. I've been doing a lot of exploring in the woods lately." He paused, his eyes locked on Andrew. "I've found some really interesting things out there. Things that I think you might find fascinating, Andrew." Andrew felt a growing sense of unease. What did Judd mean by that? And why was he being so fixated on him? He tried to brush it off, but Judd's words sent a chill down his spine. As they stood there, Judd's presence seemed to grow more oppressive, like a dark cloud looming over them. Andrew couldn't shake the feeling that Judd was watching him, studying him, and waiting for something to happen. And he couldn't help but wonder what Judd's true intentions were. Mrs. Birch called out to them from the rocks, "Judd, isn't it time for you to head back? We don't want you to get lost in the woods." Judd nodded, but his eyes never left Andrew's face. "Yeah, I should probably get going. But I'll catch you guys later, okay?" He smiled again, and this time, Andrew saw something in his eyes that made his blood run cold. As Judd turned and walked away, Andrew felt a wave of relief wash over him. But he couldn't shake the feeling that Judd was still watching him, even as he disappeared into the trees. He glanced over at Nick, who was watching him with concern. "Hey, you okay?" Nick asked. Andrew nodded, trying to process what had just happened. "Yeah, I think so. But I don't like this, Nick. Something's not right about Judd." Nick nodded in agreement. "I know what you mean. Let's keep an eye on him, okay?" Andrew nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards his friend. But as they turned back to the water, he couldn't shake the feeling that Judd was still out there, watching and waiting.
