Chapter 21: Fractured Silence
Part 21
The hours ticked by at a glacial pace, Taehyun's gaze fixed on the TV as the screen blurred into a mess of colors and sounds. He couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled in his stomach, like a knot that refused to unravel. Beomgyu's words kept echoing in his mind, a constant reminder of the tension that had been building between them. As the night wore on, Taehyun found himself growing restless, his mind wandering to all the things he could be doing instead of sitting alone in the living room. He thought about going for a walk, but the darkness outside seemed oppressive, and he didn't feel like facing the chill of the evening air. The silence in the apartment was oppressive, punctuated only by the occasional creak of the old building. Taehyun felt like he was trapped in a bubble, unable to escape the weight of his own emotions. Just as he was starting to drift off to sleep, Taehyun heard a faint noise coming from Beomgyu's room. It sounded like he was playing his guitar, the soft melody a gentle counterpoint to the tension that had been building between them. Taehyun's ears perked up, and he found himself drawn to the sound. He hadn't heard Beomgyu play in months, not since the last time they'd had a heart-to-heart. The music was like a balm to his soul, soothing his frayed nerves and calming his racing thoughts. As he listened, Taehyun felt a pang of regret for the way he'd spoken to Beomgyu earlier. He realized that he was being stubborn and childish, and that Beomgyu was only trying to help. The music stopped abruptly, and Taehyun was left with the oppressive silence once again. He knew he couldn't stay in the living room forever, hiding from Beomgyu and his own emotions. Taking a deep breath, Taehyun stood up and walked over to Beomgyu's room. He knocked softly on the door, his heart pounding in his chest. "Hey," Beomgyu's voice came from the other side of the door, low and gentle. "Come in." Taehyun pushed open the door and stepped inside, his eyes adjusting to the dim light. Beomgyu was sitting on his bed, his guitar still clutched in his hands. He looked up at Taehyun, a soft smile on his face. "Hey," he said, his voice warm. "I didn't expect you to come in." Taehyun shrugged, feeling a little awkward. "I couldn't sleep," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "And I heard you playing." Beomgyu nodded, his eyes never leaving Taehyun's face. "I was just messing around," he said. "Trying to clear my head." The air was thick with tension, but Taehyun felt a sense of calm wash over him. He knew he still had a lot to work through, but for the first time in hours, he felt like he was taking a step in the right direction. "Can I sit down?" Taehyun asked, his voice a little stronger now. Beomgyu nodded, patting the bed beside him. "Of course," he said, his eyes sparkling with warmth. "I'm glad you're here."
