**Chapter 2: The Case of the Stolen Heirloom**

Part 2

As Dart drove Phryne through the city streets, she sat back in her seat, trying to rest her nose and gather her thoughts. The cold was taking its toll on her, but she was determined to solve the case. She closed her eyes, letting the gentle hum of the car's engine lull her into a semi-relaxed state. Meanwhile, Dart navigated the traffic with ease, his eyes occasionally flicking towards Phryne to check on her condition. He had known Phryne for years, and it was rare to see her like this – vulnerable and sniffling. He made a mental note to pick up some medicine on their way back to the office, hoping to help her feel better. After a few minutes, Dart turned onto a tree-lined street, lined with grand houses and manicured lawns. He pulled up in front of a beautiful colonial-style mansion, with a sprawling porch and a perfectly tended garden. Phryne opened her eyes, took a deep breath, and climbed out of the car. Lucy Harcourt greeted them at the door, looking frazzled and worried. "Phryne, I'm so glad you're here. I don't know what to do." She ushered them into the foyer, where Phryne was immediately struck by the opulent decor. The interior of the house was just as impressive as the exterior, with high ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and exquisite artwork adorning the walls. Phryne's eyes widened as Lucy led them into a lavish living room, where a large glass case stood empty on a velvet-draped table. "That's where Grandmother's necklace was displayed," Lucy explained, her voice trembling. "It was there last night, when I went to bed. But this morning, it was gone." Phryne approached the empty case, her eyes scanning the area for any signs of forced entry or clues. She noticed a small window open on the far side of the room, and her attention was drawn to it. "Dart, take a look at that window. See if you can find any fingerprints or other evidence." As Dart examined the window, Phryne turned to Lucy. "Tell me more about your grandmother's necklace. What's its history?" Lucy took a deep breath, composing herself. "The necklace has been in our family for generations. It was passed down from my great-great-grandmother, who received it as a gift from her husband. It's a stunning piece, with a large diamond pendant surrounded by smaller stones. It's not just a family heirloom – it's a piece of our history." Phryne nodded sympathetically, her nose beginning to run again. She discreetly pulled out a handkerchief and blew her nose, trying not to draw attention to her sniffles. "I understand how much this necklace means to you, Lucy. Don't worry, I'll do everything in my power to find it." As Phryne began to survey the room, taking in every detail, Dart called out from the window. "Phryne, I think I found something. There's a piece of fabric caught in the window latch. It looks like a piece of cloth from a glove." Phryne's eyes lit up with interest. "That's a great find, Dart. This case just got a lot more intriguing."
