**Chapter 1: The Unexpected Encounter**
Part 1
Maya Hart was sitting in her favorite chair in her living room, going over her school schedule for the upcoming week, when her parabatai Clary, who was also her adoptive sister, walked in and plopped down beside her. "Hey kiddo, have you seen your syllabus for Sikowitz's class?" Maya shook her head. "No, I haven't. Is it a problem?" Clary nodded. "Yeah, Beck's in that class too. And I think you two need to be careful, I've heard rumors that a new student is going to be in that class and could cause a bit of tension." Maya raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What kind of tension?" Clary shrugged. "I'm not sure, but if it involves Beck, you know it can't be good." Maya chuckled, knowing her boyfriend and her best friend's cousin could get into all sorts of trouble. Just then, her mom, Jocelyn Fray, a renowned Shadowhunter, walked into the room. "Girls, your dad and I are going out for a bit. We'll be back later." Maya's mom, a striking woman with long red hair and green eyes like her sister, also a Shadowhunter, Clary, gave Maya a quick peck on the cheek. As Maya walked to her class, she couldn't help but think about her complicated life. As a Kryptonian, a Shadowhunter, a Banshee, and a wielder of Chaos magic, Maya was used to dealing with unexpected challenges. Her parents, Luke Garroway, a werewolf and African American, and Jocelyn Fray, a Shadowhunter with fiery red hair, had always warned her that her powers and heritage made her a target. At Hollywood Arts High School, Maya walked into Mr. Sikowitz's class, a bit of a legendary teacher known for pushing his students to their limits. As she took her seat, she noticed Beck Oliver, her boyfriend's cousin, was already there. The bell rang, signaling the start of class. Just as Mr. Sikowitz began to take roll, the door swung open and a frazzled girl with a guitar case slung over her shoulder walked in. Tori Vega, a rockstar in the making, was known for her passion and her slightly quirky nature. Maya watched with interest as Tori tripped over her own feet, nearly spilling the contents of her case. "Whoa, careful!" someone exclaimed as Tori's eyes widened in embarrassment. Beck Oliver, Maya's cousin by marriage and Tori's classmate, stood up to help her, but before he could even react, Tori had rushed over to him, spilling coffee all over his shirt. "Oh no, I'm so sorry!" Tori exclaimed, mortified, as she frantically tried to rub the stain out of Beck's shirt. Maya rolled her eyes good-naturedly. This was going to be a long day. Just as Jade, Beck's cousin, walked into the room, her eyes narrowing at Tori. "Hey, watch it! That's my cousin's shirt you're ruining," she said, defensiveness creeping into her voice. Maya, who had been watching the scene unfold, stood up, her long blonde hair swinging behind her. "Hey, Jade, calm down," she said with a smile. "It's not Tori's fault. She just got here." Tori looked up at Jade with a mixture of fear and defiance. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to—" Jade crossed her arms, still looking a bit testy. "Just be more careful next time, okay?" As the scene died down, Mr. Sikowitz, the drama teacher, cleared his throat. "Alright, let's get started, shall we? Welcome, Tori, to our humble class. I'm sure you'll fit right in." Maya watched as Tori took a seat next to her, Beck still looking a bit disheveled from the coffee incident. Clary, Maya's adoptive sister, had told her that Tori was a bit of a clumsy musician, but there and then, Maya knew that this was going to be an interesting semester. How would you like the story to proceed?
