Breaking Point
Part 9
Ashley slumped in her seat, her eyes fixed on the teacher as he droned on, but she wasn't listening. The words were just a distant hum in the background, and she couldn't muster up the energy to care. She felt like she was drowning in her own despair, and the pain was suffocating her. The teacher, Mr. Thompson, noticed her lack of attention and walked over to her desk. "Ashley, can I talk to you for a minute?" he asked gently. Ashley nodded, still feeling numb, and followed him out of the classroom. Mr. Thompson led her to the office and gestured for her to take a seat. "Ashley, I think you need to take a break," he said softly. "Why don't you go to the office and take five? You look like you're about to break down." Ashley's eyes welled up with tears, and she nodded, feeling a lump form in her throat. She walked out of the office, her tears flowing freely as she made her way down the hallway. The principal, Mrs. Smith, saw her walking towards the office and quickly stepped out to intercept her. "Ashley, sweetie, what's wrong?" she asked, concern etched on her face. Ashley shook her head, unable to speak. She felt like she was on the verge of collapse, and the tears were streaming down her face. Mrs. Smith quickly ushered her into her office and handed her a box of tissues. "Sit down, Ashley, and take a deep breath," she said gently. "You can talk to me about what's going on. I'm here to listen." Ashley took a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to compose herself. She looked up at Mrs. Smith, her eyes red and puffy from crying. "I...I don't know," Ashley stammered, her voice shaking. "It's just...my dad...he's been really mean to me lately." Mrs. Smith's expression softened, and she leaned forward, her eyes filled with compassion. "Ashley, I'm so sorry to hear that," she said softly. "We'll get through this together, okay?"
