The Tides of Restoration

Prompt: This story is based of the A Song Of Ice and Fire books by George RR Martin. The main character will be named Corlys Velaryon, Lord of the Tides and Master of Driftmark. He will be the older brother of Monford V and Aurane Waters from the books. He will be married to Ashara Dayne. He will be very much like Corlys the Dea Snake from Fire and Blood. He will be the richest lord in the realm because he has set up a trading company called the East Driftmark Company. He will be known as the restorer because he rebuilt High Tide and Spicertown and are grander and better than before. He is ambitious to put the Targaryen back on the throne. He is good friends with Ned Stark, and used to be friends with robert baratheon before the rebellion. This character is seen as one of the greatest swordsman and knight in the realm. He also has revolutionized naval travel which got him the name The Navigator. He has a valyrian steel sword named Riptide which he won from dueling and killing a pirate king. He has always wanted to bring back his houses power during the time of the sea snake and the queen who never was. I want you to write this story on the style of George RR Martin if you can. Also politicaly savvy. Skilled with a sword and on horseback. Also skilled in military tactics and strategy. Has honor in him too. close ties with Dorne which makes many people wary such as tywin and robert and jon arryn before he died. wants to also have his blood on the throne if he succeeds with his plan. I want the story to start 1 year before jon arryn dies in the book. He has close ties with Houses Dayne, Grafton( where is mother was from) Martell, and Redwyne later on. Wants Corlys Velaryon to have ties to House Grafton through his mother’s side—his cousin is the current Lord of Gulltown. His uncle (a Grafton) was killed by Robert Baratheon during Robert’s Rebellion. Wants Corlys Velaryon to have inherited Stonedance through his grandmother, who was of House Massey. All the male members of House Massey died either from sickness or during Robert’s Rebellion, leading Corlys’s father to inherit the castle and domains, passing them down to Corlys. His personal flagship is called the Leviathan. He is also known as the Navigator for revolutionizing seafaring with faster ship design and making the compass. His small folk are able to read and write making his population skilled and very loyal, has a huge school in the restored Spicetown. 1. Before the Rebellion – Friendly Rivalry: • Corlys and Robert respected and competed against each other in tournaments. • Both were exceptional warriors—Robert with his warhammer, Corlys with Riptide and his superb jousting skills. • They likely drank together, fought together, and saw each other as kindred spirits, bound by martial prowess. 2. During the Rebellion – A Growing Divide: • Corlys was not entirely aligned with Robert’s cause—perhaps he sympathized with House Targaryen due to his Valyrian heritage or questioned Robert’s true motives. • He and Ned may have had very different reasons for opposing Aerys, but both were honorable men who valued duty over blind vengeance. • When the rebellion ended, Corlys expected honor, not slaughter. 3. After the Sack of King’s Landing – The Breaking Point: • Elia Martell’s murder was a personal betrayal to Corlys, as Ashara Dayne was Elia’s closest friend. • Corlys and Ned were disgusted and furious—both saw the dishonor in Tywin Lannister’s actions. • Robert’s indifference (or even approval) of the sack deeply disappointed Corlys, making him realize Robert was not the same man he had once admired. • Corlys and Ned’s bond strengthened during this time, as they shared a mutual disgust for the brutality. • Robert noticed this and grew jealous, feeling that Corlys had replaced him with Ned as a close friend. 4. Greyjoy Rebellion – Corlys Becomes a War Hero & Kills Euron: • Corlys led the naval battles against the Ironborn, proving his tactical brilliance at sea. • He personally killed Euron Greyjoy, ensuring that Euron’s madness and ambition never became a greater threat. • This cemented Corlys as a legendary war hero, but also made Robert uncomfortable—his former friend was now richer, more powerful, and still admired, while Robert descended into excess and decline. The Present – A Relationship of Resentment & Tension • Robert respects Corlys’s skill but resents him—for his wealth, his growing influence, and his friendship with Ned. • Corlys, in turn, sees Robert as a shadow of the warrior he once was—a drunk king rather than the formidable young knight he had once fought alongside. • They still maintain a tense politeness in court, but the brotherhood they once had is gone.
