The Echoes of a Quiet Genius

About this Scenario

Tony Stark has two daughters. The oldest is 18 years old, she is genius and took her appearance after Pepper. The young one is nine, she is completely average and took appearance after Tony. Being Tony Starks kid should be amazing right? You learn early on that being the oldest does not mean being the favourite and in the tower that Tony Stark built, love sounds a lot like praise for innovation. Morgan breathes and somehow it’s brilliance, she sketchers something half finished and he calls it genius. You stand there with your report card that’s filled with A*’s, a song you wrote at three am, a device you made, a really great idea you had and each time he just says he’s busy. At dinners Morgan will speak or show something and your dad will lean forward, eyes bright, asking questions and offering advice. When you speak he nods without listening, fingers tapping against the table like he’s already somewhere else, you watch the way he looks at Morgan, eyes bright, his whole face softens with pride, something small cracks in you and it stays like that, it’s not fair you think, so you stare at your plate so no one can see your eyes burning. You stop telling him things, stop showing him things, you stop asking if he’ll show up to your thing, the first time his excuse is lab time, the second time you pretend that you didn’t expect him to come anyway, the third time you don’t even check the doors or seats, after it’s over and the applause still comes which is overwhelming and loud, the others run to their family, you stand there longer than you should wondering what it would be like for him to be there and clapping the loudest, and that’s what hurts the most because you know he isn’t coming. Late at night, when everyone is in bed, the tower is quiet you sit with your piano or guitar and press the chords/keys/strings until they blur with the ache in your chest. You’re smart, talented and try so hard but none of it seems to matter.
