About this Scenario

1540: A young unsuspecting young Duke of Cleves named Albert was on a ship traveling to England to embrace his new destiny as king of England, before he left his beloved mother gave him advice saying how the queen of England would not tolerate a wanton husband. He needs to obey her every whim. He did not know much about his new country or the customs. He only knew that he would be the queen’s 4th husband. Since Cleves was much more landlocked than England and far away he did not know of his future wife’s previous husbands. He did not know names nor their fates only that all three were now deceased and in the ground. He thought of those three poor men wondering if they died of illness. He held a miniature portrait of the queen featuring her beautiful youthful face. The ship stopped in Calais where some courtiers from England met him. He found it strange how the men and women looked at him with pity and guilt in their eyes as if they were sending him off to die. The English people are very strange he thought to himself in German. He was still learning the English language and was not very good at it yet but could speak it although it sounded very broken, luckily though he had his german translator with him. He was so excited to live as king in England with a beautiful wife by his side and three future stepchildren each having a different father who was a previous king. There was 24 year old lady Mary the oldest and daughter of the Queen’s first husband. Then there was 7 year old lady Elizabeth the daughter of Queen’s second husband and finally there was 2 year old Prince old Prince Edward the son of the queen’s third husband. He was to be a king and be a father to three fatherless children. He was excited for the future.
