Caught in the Act
Prompt: Write a story based on bakudeku getting caught in the act
It was a warm evening in U.A. High School, and the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the bustling grounds. The students were winding down after a long day of classes, but two boys had plans of a different sort. Izuku Midoriya, the ever-anxious green-haired boy, had been summoned by a very special individual that day—a certain explosive blonde who went by Katsuki Bakugo.
The two of them had developed a friendship that was unexpected, and they had grown closer since the beginning of their third year. What had once been rivalry was now a deep understanding that somehow softened the harshness of Bakugo’s explosive demeanor. But with those feelings came tension, something neither of them quite knew how to navigate.
On this particular evening, Bakugo had lured Midoriya to the rooftop of the school's main building under the guise of practicing their quirks in a less crowded area. It wasn't uncommon for Bakugo to prefer isolation; it gave him space to think without the noise of his peers. He had, however, a more personal reason for wanting Midoriya with him.
The sky was painted in hues of orange and pink as the two boys stood on the rooftop, the evening coolness wrapping around them. Midoriya was fidgeting nervously, unsure if he should follow Bakugo’s lead. This was supposed to be practice, but all past experiences haunted him—would he explode in a flurry of stammering words again? Would Bakugo ever get serious with him, or would he just continue to tease?
As Midoriya’s heart raced and his thoughts spiraled, Bakugo turned abruptly, his intense gaze piercing into the fretting boy’s soul. “Stop thinking so much, Deku. We’re not just here to stand around. Let’s see what you’ve got.”
With those words, Bakugo’s demeanor shifted, and Midoriya felt it in the air. Clenching his fists, he focused on channeling his One For All power, feeling the familiar rush of energy surging through him. He didn’t have the explosive power of his companion, but he still felt a strong determination. As he charged up his quirk, a bright green light flickered around his body.
But Bakugo was focused, his eyes dancing with excitement as he prepared his own attack. “Alright then! Let’s see some real fire!” he shouted, igniting his palms with blasts of explosions. The rooftop shook as their quirks clashed, light and sound mingling in a wild display of power.
Their practice carried on, mixing bursts of energy and laughter. As they worked together, testing each other's limits and even racing against one another, the tension in the air began to dissolve. Their breathing became synchronized, their smiles built upon mutual trust, and for a fleeting moment, they were nothing more than two boys enjoying their time together.
However, their fun was about to collide head-on with reality. Yui, one of their classmates, was returning from a late study session in the library when she heard the distant explosions and laughter. Curiosity piqued, she approached the rooftop, pushing open the door with a creak.
Peeking in, her eyes widened at the sight before her. There, beneath the brilliant twilight sky, was Bakugo and Midoriya, two of their school's top students, caught in a flurry of chaos and camaraderie. They were both wrestling with one another, oblivious to everything but their own laughter and the exhilaration of their quirks.
“Hey!” she called out, unable to suppress the grin that spread across her face. “What are you two doing up here?”
The sudden voice struck like lightning, and both boys froze, mid-action. Bakugo whipped around with his characteristic scowl, his explosive energy pulsating as surprise lit his features. Midoriya, on the other hand, flushed a bright shade of red, his heart hammering in his chest.
“Uh… Yui!” Midoriya stammered, stepping back nervously. “We were just—”
“Practicing!” Bakugo interjected, his tone a mixture of annoyance and embarrassment. He crossed his arms, clearly not willing to show any vulnerability in front of their classmate.
“Oh really?” Yui raised an eyebrow, skeptical but amused. “It looks more like you’re playing tag. Should I tell Aizawa-sensei? He’s not a big fan of ‘playing’ on the rooftops, you know.”
Midoriya’s mind raced at the thought. Their training was supposed to be secret, a safe escape from the pressures of U.A. But now? There was no way around it. “No, please don’t! We were just… testing out our quirks!”
“Yeah!” Bakugo added, accompanied by a glare that would make anyone second guess their judgment. “We’re not fooling around!”
Yui chuckled, seeing right through them. “Right. And you expect me to believe that you were just ‘testing’ your quirks while having the time of your lives?”
The situation quickly devolved into an awkward silence. Various expressions crossed their faces—Midoriya's embarrassment, Bakugo's irritation, and Yui's amusement. She had a knack for seeing through their bravado, and now they were stuck.
“Fine,” Bakugo growled, “What’s it to you anyway? Just don’t go spreading rumors.”
Midoriya nodded vigorously, desperate to mend the situation. “Y-yeah! We really didn’t mean to cause any trouble!”
Yui’s eyes sparkled with mischief as she waved them off. “Relax, I won’t say a word… yet. But you owe me dinner for catching you in the act!”
As she turned to leave, Bakugo grit his teeth while Midoriya’s heart thumped a little slower, relieved but also amused. It was unwelcome attention, but somehow it added brightness to the evening.
Their rooftop rendezvous shifted from secret practice to a shared moment of laughter, the kind that reminded them both that they weren’t solitary figures in their battle against the world. Maybe they could turn this unintentional mishap into something more meaningful—camaraderie that extended beyond the quirks they wielded.
Bakugo cast a sidelong glance at Midoriya, a ghost of a smirk on his lips. “Well, that could’ve been worse.”
“Yeah…” Midoriya replied, his heart still fluttering. “Though next time, maybe we should pick a better hiding place.”
And together, they stepped back towards the ledge, the sun fading, already imagining all the times they would be caught in the act again—but now it wouldn’t feel quite so bad after all.
